What is Islam?
ISLAM is submission to the will of GOD ALMIGHTY through which men acquire peace and the acceptance of and
obedience to the teachings of GOD ALMIGHTY.
THE HOLY QUR’AN:
The Holy Qur’an, the last revelation from, deals with subjects which concern mankind, and provides guidelines
and detailed instructions for a just society, proper human conduct, and a viable economic system. But the basic
theme of the Qur’an is the relationship of GOD ALMIGHTY and HIS creatures. The Holy Qur’an was revealed unto
Prophet Muhammad in the Arabic Language. Any translation of the Qur’an to any language is considered only as
translation of the meaning of the Holy Qur’an.
PROPHET MUHAMMAD:
Muhammad was born in Makka in the year 570 A.D. His father AbduLLAH Ben Abdul Muttaleb who was from the respected
family of Quraish, died few months before he (Muhammad) was born. Muhammad’s mother Amineh Bent Wahab died when
Muhammad was only 5 years old. After the death of his mother Muhammad was raised by his uncle Abu Talib.
Muhammad was illiterate. He could not read nor write. As he grew up he was known as the trustworthy (Al-ameen).
At the age of forty, Muhammad received his first revelation from GOD through the archangel Gabriel. The revelation
continued for twenty-three years. These revelations are collectively known as the Holy Qur’an.
When Muhammad began to recite the Qur’an and to preach the truth revealed by GOD ALMIGHTY, the unbelievers began to
harm and persecute him and his followers in any way possible. When the persecution intensified so fiercely, Muhammad
was commanded by GOD to emigrate with his followers from Makka to Madina in the year 622 A.D. This emigration marked
the beginning of the Muslim Hijra Calendar.
The people of Medina embraced Islam and surrounded Prophet Muhammad and his followers with their love and great
hospitality. Years later, Prophet Muhammad and his followers visited Makka and performed hajj. Prophet Muhammad
died at age sixty-three in his home in Medina in the year 633 A.D. which corresponded to the thirteenth year of
the Hijra Year.
Prophet Muhammad died at the age of sixty-three.
