The Islamic Cultural Center of Greater Chicago

Muslims in the United States

Inspired by the good example of the predecessors, Muslims want to continue building cultural presence in the United States and thus make a useful contribution to its unique life. Our center is only one among thousands of others across the country, through which Muslims are trying to achieve this goal with various programs and religious classes.

The Muslims in the United States are increasingly participating in American public life and contributing to its progress and prosperity. Enjoying religious freedom and appreciating the plurality of the American society, the Muslims are making their own religion-cultural history in the United States by expanding their physical presence and spreading their spiritual values. "The crescent and star of Islam," as Bruce Buursma put it, "is rising in the West and the distinctive domes of mosques are sprouting like mushrooms in neighborhoods across the United States."

As Muslims, Our future lies in our genuine ability to comprehend and accept the divine message of the Qur'an, and to sincerely follow the exemplary behavioral life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) To achieve that, we must have trust in God, use our mind, develop our sense of morality and be in touch with reality.

Our children are our most precious gifts from God. They are a book from which others read our present and predict our future. They are the continuation of our Islamic beliefs, values and dreams, but only in as much as we really care for their proper education and spiritual illumination. Our future, then, depends on our readiness to work for it.

The members of this Islamic Center, together with all others across the United States, are committed to live with faith in God, with justice, with love, with tolerance and with peace, and to work for a brighter future. We believe in God: Because we love, we are just; because we are just, we are tolerant and, because we are tolerant, we desire to live in peace.
