From the dedicated competitor to the leisure rider. Our clubs and centres give BRC members the chance to ride, compete and train together at national competitions, training and social events. The Riding Club year is going to change to January to December which makes it easier for clubs and HQ to sort out qualifications for winter competitions.
With this in mind the Area are also changing their AGM to January so that all new officials of Area 2 Riding clubs can attend that meeting. Please remember as from January 1st , all horses must be micro chipped and they will be spot checks made at qualifiers and championships. As well as responding to welfare concerns, the department lobbies government on a number of welfare-related issues;  runs campaigns including the Ragwort Awareness Campaign;  promotes responsible breeding through its 'Think Before You Breed' campaign  and close link with the BHS Horse and Pony Breeds Committee; works closely with other welfare organisations and monitors the horses and ponies on the BHS's rehoming scheme. Dates for are currently being added, so please check back regularly. Organising a qualifier can be a big job, so it is a good idea to set up a show committee to handle the planning and organising.
Send invitations to judges and officials well in advance and confirm the venue, start time, directions and test in writing. You should also ensure your judges are comfortable. This means keeping the session under four hours and scheduling reasonable breaks, providing refreshments and a good lunch and in cold weather offering blankets and a hot water bottle.
You should also pay their expenses, so provide a mileage claim form on the day. BRC will appoint an official steward, usually the area representative, to offer help and advice to the organiser. We also provide rosettes, scoring materials and entry forms.
No organiser should be without the official stewards and organisers rulebook, which is available from the BHS bookshop. We also recommend you keep a current copy of the BRC Handbook to hand, along with the rules of the relevant disciplines. Sponsored by Fibre-beet, this Championship features combined training as well as a challenge class which incorporates both show jumping and cross-country. Sponsored by NAF, this Championship hosts five classes with a mix of long and short format for both juniors and seniors, teams and individuals.
Sponsored by NAF, the National Championships are held in September with a wide range of classes from Dressage to Style Jumping, combining both Championship and direct entry classes across all levels. Direct entry classes have been introduced to this Championship to welcome even more competitors. Be sure to have a look and see if there is anything that may suit you and your equine partner.
