These issue has been over and over been discussed, yes Teachers do play thier part with regards to Life Orientation at school but the question is are the parents doing enough to further reinforce the message that is being disseminated by the Teachers about the risks of being an young mother.

This is a popular myth that has been around since Victorian times in Europe, not only in SA. The right-wing and conservative discourse of the poor being feckless and undeserving. Here in the UK it is pumped out by the Daily Mail and the conservative government all the time. If you living in poverty a little cash helps. The problem is a lack of family guidance. Parents do not support their kids anymore. I understand that life is hard and their busy trying to make a living but its their responsibility to take care of their kids.
Teen pregnancy in SA is caused by lack of guidance when it comes to males greatest emphasis is put on females n men are left out failing to understand that they are the ones in most cases who don want to use condoms and the ones who have a lot say about a state of woman who is on contraceptive. I also have a view that the child support grant does encourage teenagers to fall pregnant. They even say it when they chat among themselves.
There is a need for studies to be conducted in Black communities, particularly in the Eastern Cape. Most of the studies have been conducted in other races. The problem is with Black communities.
